FISHING GEAR TOUR
Route in which you can see how it works in the Ría de Arousa, the largest estuary in Galicia. We will leave from the port and start a route in which at all time we will be surrounded by mussel rafts and we will meet on our journey with the boats that operate in this estuary. According to the time and the bans we will find its people working in some Fishing Arts or others. We will see the shellfish gatherers as the clams and also the shellfish working on the beaches. We will also see how the best mussels in the world are cultivated, how they are raised and how they are extracted.
We will be able to see purse seiners in full slaughter as well as the collectors of the knives and seaweed of this estuary. We will know how the shrimp arrives at our tables watching the sea equilibrists, the Trueleiros, the people who are dedicated to catching the shrimp in the rafts.
ROUTE ISLET OF AREOSO & RÚA
The Island of Rúa is located in the center of the estuary of Arousa and between its peculiarities it emphasizes that it is an island totally of stone. We will arrive at Rúa and disembark to step on it, see and feel all the energy that an island of stone holds, yes, enormous stones and with special shapes. High stones from which you can see the estuary from its highest point in the sea. A very small island but in which to take a walk through all its stones and even a dip will not leave anyone indifferent. Then we will embark again and we will go to our Galician Caribbean, the Islet of Areoso. We will arrive and disembark on an islet of turquoise waters and fine white sands. An islet full of enchantments and surprises where the easiest thing is to feel that we are in the shooting of some movie. We will visit it and enjoy its waters and also some megalithic dolmens found there.
ROUTE ISLAND OF ONS
Ons Island is located at the entrance to the Pontevedra estuary and is the only one belonging to the Parque de Illas Atlánticas that is still inhabited by about 80 people. In it we can find several beaches and spectacular cliffs. Unique flora and fauna on an island full of life in the summer months and almost solitary in winter. An island to spend an unforgettable day enjoying the sea and nature. Surprise yourself with its wonderful beaches, hiking trails and exquisite cuisine. Enjoy the sea, the greenery and Galicia.
A ILLA DE AROUSA
What better than seeing from the sea a fishing village located in the center of the Ria de Arousa, which is also an island? In this boat trip we will navigate along the entire coastline of A Illa de Arousa. We will see all its charm from the sea and all the mussel bateas, rafts, that surround it, its lighthouse and the famous Islote Areoso. A boat trip in which we will enjoy a coastline full of beaches and nature, as is the Natural Park of Carreirón.
We will also pass under the bridge that connects this island with the mainland and we will always have some pleasant surprise that will give us this boat ride.
A walk recommended for all ages and that nobody will be able to forget by its singularity.
ROUTE ISLAND OF CORTEGADA
Cortegada is the smallest island belonging to the National Park of Atlantic Islands and the one that is closer to land. Not that it doesn’t have charm, but it is the island with the greatest diversity of flora and the largest laurel forest in Europe. An island located just 200 meters from the port of Carril, the population with more clam parks throughout Europe and famous for its clams and the party that extols them. We will be surrounded by clam growing parks and the people who work them to grow this precious seafood. We will see its old village, in ruins, but with some of its houses already remodeled and the rest in phase of remodeling. We will be visiting an island where we will find ourselves at the mouth of the river Ulla, a navigable river up to the town of Pontecesures in A Coruña and where the Xacobea River Maritime Route begins. We will also see the group of islets that surround it, such as the Malveiras and the Briñas. A few islets that although they are very small harbor in epoch of migration great groups of marine birds.
ROUTE ISLAND OF SÁLVORA
Sálvora is the only island belonging to the National Park of Atlantic Islands, Illas, in which we will be able to see wild Galician horses and deer. An island protected by the north of an archipelago of small incredible islands, the island of Vionta with its dune shape and fine sands.
The Islet of Noro in which the large stone that gives it its name will make us feel very small next to it, and of course, the islets of Gaboteira and Herbosa. A precious archipelago of mixed bottoms and of little depth where their crystalline waters let us see their bottoms as if we did it with a glasses of diving. Once inside Sálvora, its castle and siren will be the first to receive us. We will disembark and we will enjoy a route on foot with or without guide in which we will be able to see its old village, (uninhabited since 1972), its lighthouse, the forest and all its contour in a very calm and advisable island in any time of the year, even in the months of July and August, since it is the great unknown of all the islands of the Park of Atlantic Illas, Atlantic Islands.
TRASLATIO ROUTE
We will sail from the waters of the Ría de Arousa to the port of Pontecesures, located in the town that gives it its name. Only 2 kilometres away is the village of Padrón, land of great writers and poets, and only 25 km from Santiago de Compostela. We will sail through the waters of the Island of Cortegada, which belongs to the National Park of Atlantics Islands, and we will also see its smaller islands such as Malveiras and Briñas. Surrounded by clam and mussel cultivation parks, we will leave behind the salty waters to go into the fresh waters of the Ulla River, river because the one that sailed the remains of the Apostle Santiago to Compostela. Bamio, Catoira, Valga and Dodro will be some of the localities that we will be observing from the river and that together with their bridges, towers vikingas and cruceiros will be accompanying us until our destiny. In this route we will be able to make the maritime fluvial section of the Xacobea Route also known as the Translatio Route.
